Why Take Supplements

You Thought You Were Eating Healthy But You Didn’t Know This

We’ve all been taught since grade school that we should eat a balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, meats/proteins, grains, dairy, etc. to ensure good health. You can probably picture the food pyramid in your mind as you read this post. As we’ve gotten older, we have realized the importance of eating many healthy vegetables and fruits mixed with proteins and other foods to maintain nutritional requirements as well as our desired weight.

So if we are spending time, energy, effort and money to plan healthy menus, shop for healthy foods and prepare them in healthy ways…does that mean we are reaching our goal of “eating healthy?”
That may have been the case many years ago, but due to soil depletion, pesticides, chemicals, hormones, intensive agriculture and a variety of other reasons, crops grown decades ago were much richer in vitamins and minerals than the varieties most of us get today.

The Data Provides the Dirt on Dirt (Soil)

Dr. Joel Wallach, a biomedical pioneer who began his medical career specializing in the nutritional treatment of cystic fibrosis, and continues to be a strong health advocate, spent many years researching how nutrition affects health in animals and humans.

He shares points from his nutritional research to explain that before electric stoves, wood ash/plant minerals were emptied each day and used to fertilize our gardens (95% of wood ash is plant minerals), which provided a continuous rich, healthy soil in which to grow our foods. Farm waste was used as fertilizer, and if pesticides were used, they were made of herbs, coal tar, or inorganic compounds. This ensured that our vegetables and fruits provided healthy amounts of proteins, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and vitamins and other minerals.

Not so today. A landmark study on the topic by Austin Texas’ Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry was published in December 2004 in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. They studied U.S. Department of Agriculture nutritional data from both 1950 and 1999 for 43 different vegetables and fruits, finding “reliable declines” in the amount of protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, riboflavin (vitamin B2) and vitamin C over the past half century. Researchers chalk up this declining nutritional content to agricultural practices designed to improve traits (size, growth rate, pest resistance) other than nutrition.

The Organic Consumers Association cites several other studies with similar findings: A Kushi Institute analysis of nutrient data from 1975 to 1997 found that average calcium levels in 12 fresh vegetables dropped 27 percent; iron levels dropped 37 percent; vitamin A levels dropped 21 percent, and vitamin C levels dropped 30 percent.

So this means that even if we’re eating fresh fruits and vegetables, grains and proteins, we are still not giving our bodies the full balance of vitamins and minerals they need to be healthy.

This lack of nutrition in our foods can take a toll on our health. A study published in Mineral Sources International found that recent dietary, environmental and disease trends could be attributed to depleted soil as a result of pesticides, hormones, heavy metals, antibiotics and food additives, trace mineral depletion of the soil, excessive use of fertilizers, changes in crop varieties, loss of micro flora/fauna within the soil, etc.

So How Can We Ensure Proper Nutrition?

We can start by doing our best to eat a healthy diet. But because we don’t get the 90 essential nutrients from even the healthiest of foods, we must get them elsewhere.

Real health is only possible if it radiates from a strong, fundamentally-sound center. There is a core group of 90 essential nutrients that has the greatest positive impact in bringing dynamic health to the human body’s complex and multi-dimensional systems. These essential minerals, vitamins, amino acids and essential fatty acids are at the very center of our commitment to improving lives through technologically-advanced, high-quality nutrition. The 90 essential nutrients provide an excellent health foundation for people of all ages, and you can get them in convenient, delicious products that will supplement your efforts in providing your body with healthy nutrition.

For starters, we recommend the 90 for Life Healthy Body Start Pak, which includes:

Beyond Tangy Tangerine/2.0 (BTT): This delicious combination of citrus flavors provides energy boosting nutrients, supports a healthy immune system, promotes cardiovascular health, and promotes healthy blood sugar levels. It includes probiotics and prebiotics for digestive support, antioxidants, and is gluten-free and shellfish-allergen free. It is also fat- and cholesterol-free and has a low glycemic index.

How to use?

One option is to mix into roughly 3-4 cups of water. Diluting the nutrition with water and taking slowly over time gives your body time to absorb the nutrition. Try mixing into a smoothie! (Try one scoop at a time until you determine your desired flavor.) Your stomach requires acid to absorb nutrients, so if you feel nausea when you take the nutrients, take them with meals or drink it more slowly over a longer period of time. You can also add our Ultimate EnzymesTM to help reestablish your stomach acid. The stomach acid requires salt and calcium for stomach acid production. Including organic sea salt or Himalayan salt with meals can aid in the stomach’s ability to digest the nutrients.

For starters, we recommend the 90 for Life Starter, which includes:

Beyond Osteo-fx: With bone and joint health becoming an increasing concern for many adults, Beyond Osteo-fx powder was formulated to help support optimal bone and joint health. With more than the daily recommended intake of calcium and nutrients needed to enhance calcium absorption by the body, Beyond Osteo-fx does more than simply provide you with optimal bone and joint health support. It also supplies you with powerful antioxidants targeted to eradicate the free radicals that undermine joint health in the first place.

How to use?

Beyond Osteo-fx powder can be easily added to your favorite beverage. Adding fruit like strawberries, blueberries, Zradical, or Saxi to the Osteo-fx is delicious! You can also mix with your Beyond Tangy Tangerine (BTT). It mixes best with room temperature water. Try mixing both BTT and Osteo-fx into a smoothie with a couple of strawberries, a small banana, and 8 oz. of yogurt rich in digestive enzymes. For sleeping disorders, consider taking some of your daily dose immediately before bed. For calcium absorption issues due to low stomach acidity, consider taking the Osteo-fx with some orange juice as this will aid in digestion. Find your favorite combination and enjoy!

Ultimate EFA Plus: A proprietary blend of essential fatty acids derived from borage oils, flaxseed oil, and fish oils, EFA Plus delivers a healthy balance of Omega 3, 6 and 9s, helping to support a healthy diet in many ways — especially in the area of cardiovascular health.

How to use?

We recommend one EFA Plus capsule be taken three times a day, preferably with food. This is to make sure you have sufficient stomach acid to assimilate them properly.

“Give your body all of the 90 essential nutrients it needs as basic building blocks and you will be amazed at its ability to heal itself.”
